Research activities: 

Juan Carlos Palomino is a senior microbiologist with 30 years experience in Mycobacteriology. He started his career at the Alexander von Humboldt Institute, Universidad Cayetano Heredia in Lima, Peru as a Research Associate, where he did research on the physiology of Mycobacterium leprae. In 1995 he moved to the Prince Leopold Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp, Belgium, where he continued his research in diagnostics in tuberculosis until 2011. He joined the group of Prof. Peter Vandamme in 2012. He has coordinated several EU-funded research projects (FP5-FP6-FP7) for more than 15 years. 

His current research interests involve diagnostic tools for tuberculosis and other mycobacterial infections, mechanisms of drug activity and traffic in Mycobacterium tuberculosis. 

He is the Director of the International TB Research Consortium “EurolacTB” (European-Latin American-Caribbean-Tuberculosis) a consortium of 68 recognized scientists working in tuberculosis in Europe and in Latin America (http://www.eurolactb.org). He is also a Member of the Stop TB New Diagnostics Working Group (http://www.stoptb.org/wg/new_diagnostics/members.asp)
